UFC 157 results: Ronda Rousey armbar beats Liz Carmouche in the first round

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-US PRESSWIRE

Ronda Rousey once again won by armbar, this time disposing of Liz Carmouche with it in the first round of her bantamweight championship fight at tonight's (Feb. 23, 2013) UFC 157 event in Anaheim, California.

History was made tonight (Sat., Feb. 23, 2013) at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, as UFC 157: "Rousey vs. Carmouche" featured a main event match-up pitting the fast rising star known as Ronda Rousey against the first openly gay fighter to compete inside the Octagon, Liz Carmouche.

That's right, folks, women are now fighting in the UFC. The day of reckoning is at hand. Or whatever.

Seeing as we were dealing with Rousey, the expectation was an armbar would pop off within the firsts minute or so. Sure enough, "Rowdy" Ronda came rushing out of the gate and locked up with "Girlrilla" quick.

It took a minute to get her pinned down but Carmouche managed to take Rousey's back. Ronda stood up but Liz stayed locked in, cranking hard on Rousey's head and neck, looking like she was about to finish early.

Rousey finally managed to shake her off, though, and came down with punches before dropping down into side control, the prime position to throw her legs over and lock in that patented armbar. Instead of doing that, though, Ronda simply used the headlock she had on Carmouche and repeatedly punched her in the face.

Then, finally, it happened. Rousey rolled and just like that, she had an arm. Carmouche fought as hard as she could to defend against it with 40 seconds to go in the first, and it looked like she might actually get out of the round.

Nope.

With the clock ticking down, getting closer to saving Carmouche with the horn, Rousey got the arm free, cranked away and the tap came shortly after.

That's 7-0, all via armbar, all in the first round, and Rousey has now successfully defended her UFC bantamweight championship.

THE CHAMP IS HERE.
