UFC 157 results: Lyoto Machida wins split decision over Dan Henderson

Gary A. Vasquez-US PRESSWIRE

Lyoto Machida worked the same game he always does and rode it to a split decision victory over Dan Henderson in the co-main event of UFC 157: "Rousey vs. Carmouche" tonight (Feb. 23, 2013) in Anaheim, California. Here's how it all went down.

With the prospect of a light heavyweight championship fight hanging in the balance, Dan Henderson and Lyoto Machida walked to the cage tonight (Feb. 23, 2013) at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, eager to make their mark and not just earn the shot but take it.

That didn't happen. At all.

After three rounds of "action," it seemed as though scorecards from all sides of the fence could -- and surely would -- vary greatly. When the cards came in, they were split.

29-28, Henderson
29-28, Machida
29-28, Machida

That's what happens when very little offense is offered and the short spurts that were involved push kicks and outside slap shots before side stepping and rushing away to avoid counter attacks. It was a decision many fans booed but the reality of the situation is Machida was fighting for another shot at the 205-pound title and hey, this has been his style from the beginning.
