Urijah Faber spectacularly submitted Ivan Menjivar in the first round of their bantamweight battle at tonight's UFC 157: "Rousey vs. Carmouche" event in Anaheim. Here's how it all went down.
The bantamweights were in action on the main card of the UFC 157: "Rousey vs. Carmouche" pay-per-view (PPV) tonight (Sat., Feb. 23, 2013) at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, as Urijah Faber returned to "The Sunshine State" to a thunderous ovation to rematch top contender Ivan Menjivar.
The winner wasn't promised a title shot by any means but this is the cream of the crop at 135-pounds with Renan Barao and Dominick Cruz on a collision course. Someone has to be waiting for the winner once that's settled.
Menjivar wanted to establish his name in those talks early with a big throw that wowed the crowd early but Faber immediately reversed and got himself on top in position to land some serious ground-n-pound from inside "The Pride of El Salvador's" guard.
Some nasty elbows.
Some scrambling led to Faber taking Menjivar's back and while Ivan stood up to avoid any danger, it didn't help because "The California Kid" somehow managed to latch on to his foe's back, lock on the body triangle, and choked him until he tapped.
And while he was still riding his back, Faber celebrated with his arms in the air, Menjivar hanging his head low. Amazing.
