Featherweights will share the Octagon at UFC 159 on April 27 as The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season 14 contestant Steven Silver returns to the cage against grappling sensation Jimy Hettes.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) return to the Northeast has another match up to add to the billing as Steven Siler and Jimy Hettes will collide in a featherweight contest at UFC 159: "Sonnen vs. Jones," which is set to go down on April 27, 2013 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
Both fighters will be looking to get back into the win column after losing for the first time inside the Octagon in their last outing.
The 145-pound match up was announced by Siler on Friday (Feb. 22, 2013) via Twitter, as he wrote, "Just sign the contract, get to fight in New Jersey again at #ufc159 April 27 vs jimy the kid hettes." UFC officials have yet to confirm the pairing.
Siler (21-10) bumped into rising featherweight prospect Darren Elkins in his last fight, coming out on the losing end due to the fact the superior wrestling abilities of his opponent overwhelmed him. The defeat snapped a three-fight UFC win-streak for the 26-year-old and at UFC 159 he will take on another talented grappler, except this time with hopes of a better result.
"Super" has finished his opponent in 15 of his 21 career victories, 13 by submission.
Hettes (10-1) tasted defeat for the first time in his career in his last outing, dropping a unanimous decision to Marcus Brimage at UFC 152. Hettes was pegged as a fighter to watch in the featherweight division after dominant wins over Alex Caceres and Nam Phan to open his UFC career, but the defeat to Brimage took a lot of the wind out of his sails. "Kid" must earn a win on April 27 to keep his head above water in the ever-evolving 145-pound weight class.
The 25-year-old finished all but one of his opponents by way of submission, including six victories in the first round.
The Siler vs. Hettes match up will likely be aired on the preliminary portion of the card, which is set to broadcast on FX and Facebook. The main card airs on pay-per-view (PPV).
UFC 159: "Jones vs. Sonnen" goes down April 27, 2013, from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. A light heavyweight championship contest will serve as the main event of the evening as reigning titleholder Jon Jones puts his belt on the line for the fifth time against No. 1 contender Chael Sonnen.
