Looks like that chatter about going to featherweight was much ado about nothing ... for now.
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight number one contender Gray Maynard will suit up for another go-round at 155 pounds, as he takes on streaking submission specialist T.J. Grant.
When and where?
At the rapidly-evolving UFC 160: "Velasquez vs. Bigfoot 2" pay-per-view (PPV) event, slotted for the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 25, 2013.
Maynard (11-1) has been stuck in kneehab since a split decision win over Clay Guida at the UFC on FX 4 event last June. "The Bully" spent the last two years unsuccessfully settling his score with Frankie Edgar and already holds wins over fellow top contenders Jim Miller and Nate Diaz.
If he plans to stay in the mix, he's got to do something that hasn't been done since 2010.
That's figure out a way to beat Grant (20-5), who had a ho-hum start to his Octagon career at just 3-3, but has since transformed himself into a 155-pound wrecking ball, winning four straight fights, including his voilent knockout win over the venerable Matt Wiman at UFC on Fox 6 just last month.
A victory over Maynard and he could be right at the top of the contender's list.
UFC 160 will feature the second showdown between UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez and 265-pound "Bigfoot" Antonio Silva. Former division kingpin Junior dos Santos will try to get back into the title picture against Alistair Overeem while Glover Teixeira makes his case for a run at the 205-pound title opposite Ryan Bader.
