Looks like the oddsmakers have been reading MMAmania.com.
Former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Gegard Mousasi is set to make his Octagon debut when he locks horns with top 205-pound prospect Alexander Gustafsson at the UFC on FUEL TV 9 event, which is slated for the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden, on April 6, 2013.
And he'll do it as a +180 underdog.
Mousasi may not have any UFC wins on his record, but "The Dreamcatcher" is far from an easy out. In fact, the Armenian has only lost one fight over the past six years, when he coughed up his belt to Muhammed Lawal in April 2010.
He won the Dream Middleweight Grand Prix in 2008 and, two years prior to that, was bounced out of the Pride FC Welterweight Grand Prix. But, in an alternate bout, he scored a unanimous decision over Hector Lombard. Denis Kang, Melvin Manhoef, Ronaldo Souza and Mark Hunt, among many other notables, have all fallen to Mousasi throughout his bright career.
And now he'll look to add Gustafsson's name to that impressive hit list.
"The Mauler" is currently one of the very best in the division, riding a six-fight win streak inside the Octagon after dropping his sophomore effort to Phil Davis at UFC 112 way back in 2010. After his unanimous decision win over Mauricio Rua at UFC on FOX 5 last December, it was widely believed Gustafsson would earn the next opportunity to challenge division champion Jon Jones.
There appears to be at least one more hurdle to clear, and he'll be jumping as the -260 favorite.
Let's get some feedback to these numbers, fight fans. Anyone think they're off the mark? Or right in line with what you would have predicted?
