Surging Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight contender Glover Teixeira will have to pass his toughest mixed martial arts (MMA) wrestling test to date when he locks limbs with decorated mat rat Ryan Bader in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 25, 2013.
Teixeira and Bader will share the center of the Octagon at UFC 160, which will take place at MGM Grand Garden Arena, on the star-studded pay-per-view (PPV) main card, according to a recent announcement from the world's leading mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion via Twitter.com.
With a dominant unanimous decision win over former 205-pound champion Quinton Jackson in his most recent appearance at UFC on Fox 6, Teixeira established that he is indeed a legitimate division contender and not just another Brazilian pretender.
The Chuck Liddell protege soundly beat "Rampage" at his own stand up game, extending his current win streak to a gaudy 18 straight; however, only three of those have come under the UFC banner. Regardless, Teixeira is now a fresh face, hot name and top threat in the crowded weight class, much like Bader was just two years ago.
Indeed, "Darth" was once deemed championship caliber, a hard-hitting, decorated collegiate wrestler who had all the tools and promise to one day contend -- and perhaps even win -- a world title. Then, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 8 winner came crashing back to Earth thanks to Jon Jones, who strangled Bader into submission back at UFC 126, tarnishing his previously perfect record and going on to become one of "the best eva!"
It will be interesting to see if Bader can somehow get his mojo back by stealing Teixeira's in "Sin City."
UFC 160 will feature a Heavyweight title fight between current division champion Cain Velasquez, defending his belt against Antonio Silva, a man he defeated at UFC 146 in May 2012. In the co-main event, arguably two of the top striking big men in the sport will finally collide as former 265-pound kingpin Junior dos Santos takes on former No. 1 contender Alistair Overeem.
