I really enjoy ranking fighters, and love hearing the feedback from the fellow posters here at Mania when I discuss them in a reply to a story. Most people on here give good and knowledgeable critiques, which really helps me.
For example, Jon BoyJoey recently critiqued a middleweight top 11 that I posted on a story about Rockhold vs Belfort, and he made me realize that my rankings were pretty out of wack. I was way overrating Munoz, underrating Jacare thus underrating Rockhold, and overrating Le. I love it when people give me criticism I can apply.
One thing has been really bugging me lately and that has to do with where everyone is ranking Phil Davis. Both UFC website and the Maniac Rankings have him as the 9th best fighter right now. I do not see the logic for this because looking at Phil Davis's career in the UFC I believe he should be higher in the rankings and probably in the top 5. This is of course unless someone show me why I am wrong.
Lets look at the facts:
Phil Davis has one career loss to Rashad Evans, who up until his uninspiring performance in his loss to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira has shuffled between 2-4 in the light heavyweight division in the last couple of years, and Evans has not been out of the Top 5 since he knocked out Chuck Liddell back in 2008.
Phils Davis is ranked below Alexander Gustafsson whom he choked out in the first round, and Antonio Rogerio Noguiera who he beat decisively by winning all three rounds. The UFC has Gus 4th and Nogueira 6th while Mania has them 4th and 8th respectively.
I am well aware that Phil Davis is not the most exciting fighter on the planet, and he is well on his way to becoming the Jon Fitch of the light heavyweight division (at least he submits people), but that still shouldn't discount his wins over Nogueira and Gustafsson because both were within the last 3 years. It is not like trying to argue that Nogueira should be ranked ahead of Hendo because he subbed him 8 years ago.
Could someone please present the logic for having Davis so low?
