Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey is considered to be the best female mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter on the planet -- and she has the credentials to prove it.
Rousey is undefeated (6-0) with all six victories coming in the first round via submission (armbar). She left the now-defunct Strikeforce organization as the 135-pound champ and became the first women to ever hold a belt for the UFC.
Yet, none of that impresses her arch nemesis, Cristiane Santos.
According to "Cyborg," all of her past accomplishments mean squat until Ronda meets her inside the cage. Though they have never faced each other, the two women have built up quite a bitter rivalry through their back-and-forth banter.
Now that the Brazilian has moved on from her ZUFFA contract and inked a deal with Invicta FC, the much-anticipated showdown between arguably the top two female MMA stars in the world will never see the light of day.
Or will it?
According to Santos, who appeared on a recent edition of "The MMA Hour," just because she isn't going to be fighting inside the UFC's Octagon in the foreseeable future, doesn't mean "Rowdy" is out of her life.
"I'm leaving the UFC, but she, "Ronda" is still in my line. I want to fight her. And, I don't want to talk about her, more, but I really want to fight her and I feel like this fight will happen. And, maybe she is now happy because we can't fight soon, but, she has never proven herself as the best in the world because she have not fight me and I hope this fight happens. I don't care who wins. I hope both girls put good fights because the UFC is big show and I want to do big fights with the girls and those two girls and I hope to fight these two girls there."
In the meantime, both women have immediate business at hand to tend to.
What say you? Are you still holding your breath in hopes of seeing a fight between "Cyborg" and "Rowdy" actually happening? Or is this another 'super fight' in a short list that will never actually see the light of day?
