Constantinos Philippou vs. Jacare Souza on tap for UFC on FX 8 on May 18 in Brazil

Could one of these two men emerge as the next top contender at 185 pounds?

UFC vs. Strikeforce, part deux.

Former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Ronaldo Souza will make his Octagon debut when he takes on rising 185-pound contender Constantinos Philippou as part of the upcoming UFC on FX 8 fight card scheduled for May 18, 2013 at Arena Jaragua in Santa Catarina, Brazil.

MMA Fighting confirmed the booking details earlier today.

The pairing comes just one day after Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC booked the upcoming event's headliner between Vitor Belfort vs. Luke Rockhold, the latter of whom knows a thing or two about doing the dance with Souza.

"Jacare" (17-3) went 7-1 under the Strikeforce banner, racking up wins over Tim Kennedy and Robbie Lawler, among others. The Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) legend is one of the best ground fighters in the sport, but recently made considerable strides in his stand up attack.

Just ask Derek Brunson, who was floored last August in San Diego.

That's right where Philippou (12-2) feels at home. "Costas" is 5-1 since his Octagon debut back in 2011 and is coming off a technical knockout win over Tim Boetsch as part of the UFC 155 pay-per-view (PPV) event last December. This could be the fight that puts him in top contention.

Or sends him to the back of the line.

No other bouts have been announced for this upcoming card, but be sure to keep it locked in to for future fight announcements as they become available.
