Middleweight action between two former teammates on The Ultimate Fighter 17 was featured on the main card of tonight's (Fri., Dec. 6, 2013) UFC Fight Night 33: "Hunt vs. Bigfoot" event from the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Brisbane, Australia, as Clint Hester took on Dylan Andrews.
"Two electric strikers who know each other well," as Jon Anik put it.
The two came out swinging hard punches early and a couple of them connected relatively clean, including one from Hester that certainly appeared to rock Andrews, if only momentarily.
It's no surprise, then, that Andrews nabbed a takedown not long after. He worked from top position for an arm but Hester was too strong underneath and managed to reverse position. Andrews next submission attempts failed but he would grab another takedown not long after they stood up again.
The story changed in the second when Hester decided he'd had enough of Andrews destroying his lead leg and snatched himself a takedown. Not only that, he controlled from top position and did just enough damage to keep himself there.
Then, a stoppage in between rounds thanks to injury.
Indeed, Andrews, at some point, had thrown out his shoulder and was visibly hurting. That forced the doctors to come in and call an end to the proceedings in the name of fighter safety.
So Hester wins, just not the way he wanted to.
