The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) "Nations" cast has been announced by Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Eight up-and-coming fighters from Canada will compete against eight prospects from Australia in the latest international-themed edition of UFC's long-running reality series, which focuses on middleweights and welterweight Patrick Cote, and the Australian Kyle Noke will lead a squad comprised of his fellow countrymen.on the upcoming season. Team Canada has a slight experience edge over their Australian counterparts.
Both Taleb and Johnson train out of Montreal's famed TriStar gym, home to UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre. However, only seven of the eventual eight fighters on Team Canada have been announced thus far.
TUF Nations debuts on Wednesday, January 15 in the same time slot the recently completed TUF 18 also aired in. The upcoming season marks the first time a TUF show featuring no Americans in the cast has aired on a major cable television platform in the United States (other than the relatively low-penetration FUEL TV, which aired TUF Brazil).
The upcoming season will serve as a buffer of sorts heading into the Frankie Edgar vs. B.J. Penn-coached TUF 19, which begins airing in April 2014.
