Eric Kelly Gets Back to Winning Ways By Submitting Jianbo Lu With First Round Armbar at URCC 24

Can Kelly get back into the ONE FC title picture?

After riding a nine fight unbeaten streak all the way to a ONE FC title shot, Eric Kelly fell short at the final hurdle in February, being stopped in the fourth round by fellow Filipino Honorio Banario. He was back in action at URCC 24 last Saturday night (Nov. 30, 2013) and returned to his winning ways by submitting Jianbo Lu.

Kelly's "super fight" with Lu was the main event of URCC 24: "Uprising" at the SMX Convention Centre in Manila. The Filipino made short work of his Chinese opponent by trapping him against the ropes and dragging him to the ground before moving into mount and rolling for an armbar.

Lu was powerless to prevent Kelly securing the eighth submission win of his career and improving to 10-1 overall. After the loss, the Chinese fighter was listed as 1-1, although he is supposedly much more experienced than his record suggests.

There was an upset in the co main event with Ricardo Sapno losing his URCC featherweight title after being submitted by Red Romero in the third round of their rematch. The loss was only the second of the former champion's career and he drops to 7-2 while his opponent improves to 7-4.

Reigning URCC heavyweight champion Igor Subora retained his title at the expense of Marcus Valda, stopping the Filipino with a barrage of ground-and-pound in the opening round to register his fourth straight win and improve to 5-1, while his opponent drops to 1-1.
