UFC 168 results: Dustin Poirier says Diego Brandao threatened to stab him in the neck at weigh ins

Well that escalated quickly...

There was a bit of animosity between Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweights Diego Brandao and Dustin Poirier at the UFC 168 weigh ins. Many figured the heated exchange during the face off was because Brandao missed weight by 8 pounds, but according to Poirier, the problems began before the hit the scales.

As "the Diamond" tells Ariel Helwani, the former Ultimate Fighter winner actually threatened to stab him in the neck while the two were waiting backstage.

"Him missing weight kind of sucks cause I busted my butt, man. I didn't to eat anything on Thanksgiving or Christmas, I sacrificed a lot. It's hard for me to make 145, so it takes months of preparation and I don't cheat at all," said Poirier. "So for him to come in overweight makes me mad."

"But everyone has it confused. I wasn't mad at weigh ins because he missed weight. I was like "aw well, at least we still get to fight," the featherweight continued. "I was mad because he told me he was going to stab me in the neck before we walked on stage. That's why I was so pissed off. They had to break us up in the back."

"He comes up to me and goes 'you look at me again...' because I guess I stared at him? I don't know. We're fighting, man. But he comes up to me and goes "you look at me again, I swear...' and then he backs up and then came back and said 'I'm gonna stab you in the neck and then what?' I was 100% motivated but I don't want to get stabbed in the neck."

Poirier took his frustrations out on Brandao's body as he worked him over with punches and knees before leaving him in a heap on the canvas. It was Poirier's second win in a row and one that should earn him another shot at the top of the featherweight division.

Brandao may find himself in the hot seat as he not only lost by devastating fashion but also failed to come in on weight. UFC President Dana White will often excuse losses but when a fighter misses weight, it usually comes with walking papers.
