To watch the greatest fighter of this generation suffer such a devastating injury was so sad. With Anderson having a completely different demeanor and focus in this fight, it put the excitement and expectations at an all time high.
Anderson finally threw knees in the clinch again and fought off his back uncharacteristically throwing punches off his back landing short clean shots opening up Chris’s face. And after weathering some of Chris Weidman’s best shots in the first round and putting up more of a fight in the first five minutes tonight than he did in all of his last fight. There was a sense of anticipation to start the second. Spectators were ready to see what a warmed up incomparable Anderson Silva (typically a slow starter) was ready to unleash.........sigh
There is no doubt by anyone with a single functioning brain cell that Anderson Silva is by far the most skilled mixed martial artist even at 38 years of age. Chris Weidman is a great young fighter who managed to avoid losing to Mr. Silva twice. Tonight’s turn of events put a damper on a great year and was a worst case scenerio for zuffa and the UFC.
I don’t know what zuffa classifies as a serious injury but, they should no longer boast about there never being a serious injury in the spectacle that is 'ultimate fighting'. That statement was always untrue since this near same exact injury occured in 2008.
These fighters put their health, wellbeing and quality of their life on the line and I wish Anderson Silva a full recovery. Anderson Silva is a once in a lifetime special fighter and if this was his last performance it was a pleasure to watch him dominate for so many years and share his remarkable skills with the world.
