This weekend, Glory brought its brand of kickboxing to the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo, Japan with Glory 13, a card that featured a Welterweight tournament. The night also featured what was billed as "Mr. K-1" Peter Aerts' retirement bout against Rico Verhoeven.
Glory 13 aired via tape delay on Spike TV and displayed some of the best action fans have seen from the promotion. There were epic knockouts and rough 'n tumble decisions that showcased some of the very best talent on the entire roster.
The Welterweight tournament was eventually won by Nieky Holzken, who defeated "Bazooka" Joe Valtellini by knockout in what was by far the best fight of the night. Daneil Ghita returned to form by knocking Errol Zimmerman out in the first round. It was murderous indeed.
And the highlight of the night was Peter Aerts' display of heart against Rico Verhoeven. At 43 years old, Aerts has done it all in the sport and took the Glory 11 tournament champion the distance. Though he lost a split decision, Aerts showed that he's a true legend in the sport.
