The past couple of years the UFC has stacked heavyweights on the Memorial Day weekend card. This year maybe no different but with Cain Velasquez on the sidelines with his title due to injury the UFC is going to have to get creative. The UFC is also without GSP & Pettis, & with all the shows they're putting on they need to use other Champs sparingly. Now I should have preferenced this fanpost by stating that my birthday is at the end of May so I'm always looking forward to what ppv content they bless us with on Memorial Day weekend.
My hope is that Barnett & Overeem both win their next fights(both favorites) & that both stay clean. Dana has already stated that the winner of next Saturday's Barnett/Browne will face Werdum while they wait for Cain to recover. Reem fights February 1st, & if he beats Mir that would give him 4 months to prepare for JDS.Mark Hunt broke 2 metacarpals in one of his hands 2 weeks ago against Bigfoot. Metacarpals generally take 6-8 weeks so that should be healed in mid-February, & rehab should be done in mid-March in time to book Hunt/Nelson. Now you could argue which fight should be the main event, JDS/Reem or Werdum/Barnett, but I'm going with JDS/Reem because both have beaten Werdum & JDS is the highest ranked fighter out of all of them. I know Werdum beat Reem but it wasn't nearly as recent as their last encounter. & If nothing else, JDS/Reem would just be easier to promote.
Mark Hunt vs Roy Nelson
Now obviously there are a few things that need to fall into place, but that is a ppv that will sell & the UFC won't even have to use a title.
