Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) today issued its list of medical suspensions and injuries for those fighters competing at The Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale on FOX Sports 1, which took place on Sat., Nov. 30, 2013, from Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
And it should come as no surprise that Akira Corassani faces a possible six-month sit after Maximo Blanco delivered an illegal knee that crushed his nose, breaking it in five places (see x-ray pic here) and leaving him concussed. Alarmingly, the injury might not be the most severe from the FOX Sports 1-televised card, with Drew Dober apparently breaking his face in "multiple" places courtesy of Sean Spencer.
Ouch.
Gray Maynard seemingly got off easy, considering that Nate Diaz scrambled his eggs so violently in their main event trilogy match en route to a first round technical knockout finish (watch full video highlights here).
Here is the complete list of TUF 18 Finale injuries and their medical instructions:
Gray Maynard -- Suspended until Jan. 30, 2014, and no contact until Jan. 15, 2014, because of a left forehead laceration and technical knockout.
Julianna Pena -- Must have right thumb -x-rayed to rule out a fracture, which would keep her on the sidelines until cleared by a physician to return to action.
Jessica Rakoczy -- Suspended until Jan. 15, 2014, and no contact until Dec. 31, 2013, because of a "tough fight."
David Grant -- Suspended until Jan. 15, 2014, and no contact until Dec. 31, 2013.
Peggy Morgan -- Suspended until Jan. 15, 2014, and no contact until Dec. 31, 2013, because of a "tough fight."
Akira Corassani -- Suspended until May 30, 2014, because of multiple nasal fractures unless a physician clears him to return to action sooner. Suspended at a minimum until Jan. 30, 2014, and no contact until Jan. 15, 2014.
Drew Dober -- Suspended until May 30, 2014, because of right orbital fractures unless a physician clears him to return to action sooner. Suspended at a minimum until Jan. 30, 2014, and no contact until Jan. 15, 2014.
Ryan Benoit -- Suspended until May 30, 2014, because of possible broken left hand unless a physician clears him to return to action sooner. Suspended at a minimum until Dec. 31, 2013, and no contact until Dec. 22, 2013.
Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.
