Competing in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) takes a great deal of effort and focus. Once fight week starts, most fighters will lose their sense of humor as their mind is on what will happen inside the Octagon once the door closes. It's why a fighter's general attitude could be summed up as "grumpy."
Last night (Dec. 14, 2013), the UFC held its ninth event on Fox with UFC on Fox 9: "Johnson vs. Benavidez 2" at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California. While the night was capped off with a rematch between Demetrious Johnson and Joseph Benavidez for Johnson's UFC flyweight title, the clear favorite fighter on the card was Urijah Faber.
It took him two rounds to lock in a guillotine choke Michael McDonald and earn his fourth straight fight in the UFC. While Faber and McDonald put everything on the line inside the cage, they were able to keep a sense of humor before the day of the fight.
Sunday afternoon (Dec. 15, 2013), Faber tweeted out a text conversation that he and McDonald had before they arrived at the arena. It's good to see that sometimes, not everyone needs to be completely serious about fighting.
With the win, Urijah Faber is now 6-2 in the UFC and should be next in line for a Bantamweight title shot.
