Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson will likely enter the Octagon at the Sleep Train Arena without the support of the crowd for his title defense in the main event of UFC on Fox 9. His opponent, Joseph Benavidez, is one of the core members for the Sacramento-based Team Alpha Male.
But tonight (Dec. 14, 2014), is just like any other night for "Mighty Mouse" who has dominated his way to the top of the flyweight division. More importantly, he's already faced Benavidez to become the champion of the 125 pound division. At UFC 152, Johnson took a split decision by outworking Benavidez on the feet and on the canvas.
Following the UFC on Fox 9 weigh ins, Johnson spoke with Fox Sports' Chael Sonnen and Brian Stann about his rematch with Benavidez. While he was complimentary of Team Alpha Male's success under head coach Duane Ludwig, Johnson was quick to point out that his own coach, Matt Hume, has a track record of success as well.
While he's more than happy to fight in hostile territory, he told Jon Anik that he would prefer to fight on the West coast as opposed to overseas, citing his UFC on FX bout with Ian McCall in Australia, which had a local start time of around 5:00 a.m.
In just a few hours, the cage door will be locked and Johnson will show that he's the most dangerous man in the flyweight division as he proves that tonight's fight is just like any other fight.
