A new featherweight top contender may very well emerge from the main card of tonight's (Sat., Dec. 14, 2013) UFC on Fox 9: "Johnson vs. Benavidez 2" event at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California, as Chad Mendes looks to earn a second crack at the division crown by laying waste to Nik Lentz.
How he plans on doing it:
"I do exactly what it takes to get in there and win. I want to be the champion at 145-pounds. Nik is a tough opponent but he's just kind of a grinder. I think I'm going to be a little bit too athletic for him. Nik is a very cocky guy. You know, I guarantee I'm going to hit you harder than you've ever been hit. It's time to make that guy hurt a lot. I've got this match. There's no way this guy can beat me. This is my time."
Lentz is ready to play spoiler and introduce himself to the world as the next big thing:
"This fight's going to be my step out fight. I can't wait to show the new Nik Lentz. It's going to be a cake walk. When I go out to fight I'm out there to win the fight. I'm going to beat Chad Mendes. He's a great fighter. I'm just a better fighter all around, everywhere. I know I'm going to beat Chad Mendes on Dec. 14. This is it, you've got one chance. I know I'm going to beat Chad Mendes and when it does happen it's going to be like, 'hey, this is what we said was going to happen'."
