The (bad) luck of the Irish.
Despite a war of words with up-and-coming featherweight Conor McGregor -- who offered to move all the way up to welterweight for a "Dream" fight -- Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has instead opted to put lightweight lunatic Diego Sanchez opposite unbeaten division prospect Myles Jury, according to the promotion.
When and where?
None other than the UFC 171: "Jones vs. Teixeira" pay-per-view (PPV) event, which takes place on March 15, 2014 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, just a hop, skip and a jump (relatively speaking) from where Sanchez was last seen in action.
It was a
night fight mixed martial arts (MMA) fans will never forget.
That's because Gilbert Melendez was having a "Nightmare" of a time against Sanchez at UFC 166 earlier this year in Houston, where he managed to outpoint Sanchez in what can only be described as 15 minuted of caged insanity (relive the glory here).
The loss marked the sixth straight time Diego has gone the distance.
Jury, meanwhile, has been flawless in his combat sports career with four straight wins under the ZUFFA banner. It should be noted, however, that "The Fury" had his hands full against MIke Ricci at UFC 165 back in September and narrowly walked out of Toronto with a split-decision win.
He'll need his A-game if he wants to escape "The Lone Star State" in one piece.
UFC 171 will be headlined by a light heavyweight title fight as reigning titleholder Jon Jones puts his strap on the line against division number one contender Glover Teixeira. Elsewhere on the card, Hector Lombard looks to climb the welterweight ladder against the venerable Jake Shields.
