Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will limp across the finish line to close out its 2013 fight campaign on FOX.
UFC on FOX 9 will bring a modified fight card to the Sleep Train Arena this TONIGHT (Sat., Dec. 14, 2013) in Sacramento, Calif., after a couple of injuries gave Demetrious Johnson vs. Joseph Benavidez top billing for their 125-pound title fight rematch.
Former WEC champ Urijah Faber will scrap with top contender Michael McDonald in the 135-pound co-main, while lightweight marauders Joe Lauzon vs. Mac Danzig have been promoted to join Nik Lentz vs. Chad Mendes on the televised main card.

125 lbs.: UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson vs. Joseph Benavidez
Round one: Benavidez comes out of his corner determined, looking to take control of the Octagon from the outset. Johnson doesn't take the bait and keep his distance, flitting in and out, not wanting to get plastered with a Benavidez haymaker. Johnson shoots for a single-leg takedown, but Benavidez defends with ease. Benavidez continues to entice Johnson, but he clearly has a different gameplan. Benavidez is firing of punches and kicks, but nothing is landing. He's starting to press the action, perhaps out of frustration. Johnson stands his ground and lands a HUGE RIGHT hand as Benavidez is back against the cage. HE'S OUT! Johnson lands three more shots to an unconscious Benavidez before the referee has a chance to pull him off. Benavidez is out like a light, while Johnson retains his title in ridiculously impressive fashion. WOW!
Final result: Johnson defeats Benavidez via knockout (punch) in round one

135 lbs.: Urijah Faber vs. Michael McDonald
Round 1: Faber scores a takedown early. Working from top position with punches, McDonald tries his chances at an armbar, but cannot capitalize on it. After the action on the mat slowed down, Herb Dean stood them up. Faber swings and misses with a huge right hand, and goes to the body shortly after. McDonald has not gotten comfortable yet. Faber rocks McDonald with a right hand, closing out the round with a big punch.
Round 2: McDonald tries his luck at a wild left hook and misses. Faber is beating him to the punch by being the quicker fighter. McDonald stuffs a takedown attempt by his opponent. The fight stops momentarily after Faber accidentally kicks McDonald in the groin. Shortly after the referee resumes the fight, Faber clocks McDonald with a big right hand, and he has McDonald hurt. McDonald counters with a heavy hook of his own, but Faber nails him with a front kick. McDonald goes for a leg kick, and Faber hits him with a bomb that drops him. Faber relentlessly attacks McDonald, and jumps on him, taking his back. He sinks in a guillotine, and McDonald is left with no alternative but to tap.
Final result: Faber defeats McDonald via submission (guillotine choke) in round two

145 lbs.: Nik Lentz vs. Chad Mendes
Round 1: Lentz goes for a few wild strikes, and misses them all, looking to come out strong. Mendes lands a nice left hand, and wobbles Lentz. Mendes throws a flurry his opponent's way, but Lentz survives. Mendes tags him with another right hand, and successfully lands a takedown. Lentz works his way back to his feet and he gets hit again. Mendes stuffs a takedown from Lentz. High kick misses for Lentz. Mendes lands a takedown, and Lentz starts to work off of his back. Mendes allows his opponent to get back up, and Lentz gets tagged twice on his way back to his feet. The round ends with a takedown from Mendes.
Round 2: Mendes is looking for the fight ending blow. He lands a few leg kicks, and Lentz continues to keep coming. Jab from Mendes, and Lentz goes to the body with a kick. Mendes lands a takedown, and fights off a guillotine attempt. The referee brings them back up after inactivity, Mendes lands a big punch and goes for another takedown. Mendes works from top position, and the buzzer sounds.
Round 3: Mendes lands a leg kick. Lentz hits Mendez and he goes down, but it was more of a slip than anything. Mendes still looking like the better striker, but Lentz is looking good on the feet now. Mendes goes for another takedown, but Lentz stuffs it. A nice right hand lands from Lentz, and that is his biggest punch. Mendes lands a flying knee, and drags Lentz down to the floor. Mendes is looking for the finish, going for a guillotine. Lentz is in trouble, as Mendes transitions to the top. Lentz slips out, and Mendes works with his punches on the mat as the fight draws to a close.
Final result: Mendes defeats Lentz via unanimous decision

155 lbs.: Mac Danzig vs. Joe Lauzon
Round 1: Lauzon and Danzig exchange jabs to start things off, and Lauzon charges Danzig and takes him down. Lauzon moves into mount, and attempts an armbar. Danzig fights if off and storms out of it, ending up in top position. Lauzon has the submission on his mind, but Danzig defends another armbar attempt successfully. Lauzon goes for the triangle, but to no avail. They wind up back on their feet, and Danzig attacks the body. They clinch together, and Lauzon trips Danzig. The round ends with Danzig being able to hang with Lauzon on the ground, so far.
Round 2: Danzig is working the combinations, and Lauzon is looking for power shots. They clinch together, and the crowd grows restless. They trade knees inside the clinch before they break away. Lauzon brings Danzig to the mat, who has a bad cut, with the blood pouring down his face. Lauzon throwing elbows and punches. Lauzon secures top position, and goes for an armbar once again. The buzzer sounds with Lauzon on top again.
Round 3: Danzig continues to start off the round strong, and Lauzon goes for the takedown again. The action halts after an intentional foul, and Lauzon trips Danzig shortly after the action resumed. Lauzon secures top position, and he starts to wear Danzig down with some ground and pound. Lauzon locks Danzig's arm and delivers some nasty elbows. Lauzon pouring it on, with the damage apparent on Danzig's face. He goes for the armbar one last time, and after he fails again, he improves positioning and counters a reversal to end the fight dominantly.
Final result: Lauzon defeats Danzig via unanimous decision

UFC ON FOX 9 UNDER CARD "PRELIMS" PLAY-BY-PLAY RESULTS (FOX SPORTS 1):
170 lbs.: Court McGee vs. Ryan LaFlare
Round one: LaFlare and McGee keep their posture tight, and start to trade jabs. LaFlare takes down McGee with a double leg. McGee works his way back up twice but is slammed back down. McGee makes his way back to his feet, and he starts to mix it up with leg kicks. Nice combination by McGee. LaFlare hits McGee with a huge left hand, followed by a right. LaFlare pouring it on with combinations. LaFlare catches McGee with a stiff jab. Kick to the thigh by McGee, and LaFlare is cut under his left eye. McGee catches LaFlare's leg kick, and takes him down. Scramble from both combatants, and they find themselves back on their feet. Big shots to the body by LaFlare. McGee lands a hard kick to the body. The two exchange body kicks to close out the round.
Round two: High kick from LaFlare to open the round. Nice hook from McGee. Stiff left jab from LaFlare. LaFlare scores a takedown, and starts to throw some elbows from top position. Uppercut from LaFlare. The two fighters exchange right hands. It is an extremely technical striking battle, with a few takedowns here and there. LaFlare going to the body, and finishing by punches to the head. McGee looks a little flat in this round. A couple of short jabs by LaFlare. Takedown from LaFlare. McGee is wearing the crimson mask right now, out of nowhere. LaFlare is throwing a few uppercuts, and relentlessly working his jab.
Round three: McGee starting to work better with his punches, but LaFlare is keeping up with him. Nice kick to the body from LaFlare. Wild takedown from McGee, and LaFlare gets right back up by deflecting it. Combination to the body from McGee, and he takes down LaFlare. Uppercut from LaFlare. Shots to the body from McGee. Another takedown from McGee, and LaFlare works his way back up easily, continuing to stay active with his striking. Another takedown by McGee, and he finishes on top.
Final result: LaFlare Def. McGee by Unanimous Decision (29-28x3)

155 lbs.: Edson Barboza vs. Danny Castillo
Round one: The two start going at it right away. Castillo goes for the takedown, but it gets stuffed. Castillo looking crisp early with his striking, landing his jab and a few right hooks. Castillo catches Barboza with two huge right hands, dropping Barboza, and takes him down. The Brazilian is in all kinds of trouble. Barboza hangs on to the fence (illegally) saving himself from a choke attempt, and Castillo is throwing bombs on the mat. Castillo is going for another rear naked choke, and Barboza holds onto the fence once again. Barboza's forehead is split open. Barboza catches Castillo in a heel hook, but "Last Call" fights it off.
Round two: Switch kick by Barboza. Leg kicks starting to come Castillo's way, and Barboza is now finding his groove with his lower limbs. Spinning back kick to the body by Barboza, which backs up Castillo. Another low kick by Barboza, followed by another heavy kick. Barboza just misses with a spinning heel kick to the head, reminiscent of the one that finished Terry Etim. Takedown stuffed by Barboza. Castillo looking a little slower, and he takes another leg kick. Slip by Barboza, and Castillo catches him with a left hand. Huge left hook by Barboza drops Castillo, and he follows up with an arm-in triangle attempt. Castillo defends well, but Barboza is in half guard, working with punches to the head and the body. Huge comeback from Barboza.
Round three: Barboza staying active with leg kicks. He catches Castillo with another leg kick, which was tremendously loud. Barboza lands a big right hand. Castillo catches Barboza with a hook of his own. Barboza kicks Castillo in the stomach. Jab by Barboza. Castillo goes for the takedown, but it gets stuffed. Kick to the thigh from Barboza, and Castillo rocks Barboza with another right hand. Barboza lands a nice combination, followed by a spinning back kick to the body. Castillo is feeling it in the midsection, bending down. Castillo still pushes forward, and eats a left hook from Barboza. Another spinning back kick from Barboza to Castillo's midsection. Takedown by Barboza, but Castillo storms back up. High kick from Castillo, and the horn sounds.
Final result: Barboza Def. Castillo by Majority Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-28)

155 lbs.: Bobby Green vs. Pat Healy
Round one: Green runs to the center and backs up Healy a little bit. It takes a while before both fighters connect, and Green takes him down. Healy gets back up quickly, and tags Green with a punch. Green doing a good job of staying away from Healy's shots, with his hands down at his waist. Green goes to the gut with a punch, and nails Healy with a left hand. Green hits Healy with another counter left hand. Healy goes for the double leg, but Green stays on his feet and drifts away from his opponent. Jab by Healy. Green hits Healy with two straight jabs. Healy goes for another takedown, taking Green's back and scores the first one of the fight. Green gets back to his feet, and continues to land more shots while staying away from Healy's. The two trade towards the end of the round, both landing good shots in an exchange.
Round two: Green is keeping his hands low, and tags Healy with more jabs. Healy is having a tough time closing the distance, and looks as if he is chasing Green -- who is countering with jabs and by staying calm. Healy eats a couple of right hands, and gets a takedown stuffed. Green lands another combination, and takes Healy's back. Storming out of the bad position, Healy starts to hit Green with a few shots and takes his back. Green breaks free, and lands a few more jabs. Healy is bloodied, but he never stops pushing forward. Healy grinds Green against the fence, and hits him with a couple of left hands as Green moves away. Upkick by Green, but Healy seems okay.
Round three: Healy is having more success with his reach now, actively using his jab and finding a home for it. Green catches Healy with a big right hand, which is the most significant strike of this fight. Green tangles with Healy against the fence, and is looking for a takedown. They break away, and Green starts to fire it up with combinations. Healy absorbs another big left hand by Green. Healy scores a takedown though, and works his way to Green's back. Healy slips off without the hooks, and they are back in the clinch against the cage. Healy pushes forward and starts to land some good shots on Green. Takedown for Green. Healy is trying to use the cage to get back up, and reverses him. The round ends with Healy on top of Green, throwing down bombs until the buzzer sounds.
Final result: Green Def. Healy by Unanimous Decision (30-27x2, 29-28)

Round one: Jorgensen and Makovsky get right into it, trading jabs with Jorgensen landing the better shots. Jorgensen tags Makovsky with a right hand. Makovsky tags Jorgensen with an uppercut, and Jorgensen is feeling it. To his credit, Jorgensen recovers and he goes for a guillotine choke, as Makovsky is crouched down against the cage. Makovsky gets back up, and he goes for the takedown. Jorgensen easily stuffs it, but he eats a straight jab from Makovsky. Jorgensen gets wobbled by Makovsky, who catches him with another punch. The two clinch up against the fence, and Jorgensen ends up on top of Makovsky. Jorgensen gets reversed from Makovsky's butterfly, and the horn sounds.
Round two: Jorgensen was looking a little better in the second round, catching Makovsky in a guillotine. Makovsky survived, and took the former WEC fighter down -- but Jorgensen got back up quickly. Jorgensen stuffs a takedown attempt, and they break apart. Makovsky catches Jorgensen with another straight right hand, and goes back into the clinch game with Jorgensen. Uppercut from Makovsky, but Jorgensen ends up taking him down. As Jorgensen starts to work, he lets Makovsky back up -- which is a little odd since he was finding success. Superman punch from Makovsky, who looks a little slower in this round. Head kick from Makovsky to close out the round.
Round three: Makovsky throws a few head kicks to open the round, but they all miss. He looks like he is controlling his pace better, and Jorgensen ties him up against the cage after they clinch. Huge slam from Makovsky, but Jorgensen reverses positioning and winds up in Makovsky's guard. Jorgensen looks for the guillotine, but Makovsky uses his feet to reverses the positioning -- and ends up taking Jorgensen's back. They scramble, and Jorgensen ends up on top. Makovsky powers out, and they bounce around on their feet before Jorgensen lands one of the better combinations in this fight. Jorgensen lands a knee, but Makovsky scores the takedown. Jorgensen hangs on to his neck, and they roll until Makovsky takes Jorgensen's back. Makovsky sinks in an arm under the chin, but Jorgensen stays alive to hear the final horn.
Final result: Makovsky Def. Jorgensen by Unanimous Decision (30-27x3)

Round one: McKenzie storms out and eats a punch, but he ends up scoring a takedown right off the bat. McKenzie hits Stout with a short elbow. Stout tries to get free by running away from his opponent, but McKenzie holds on for the ride. They break free, and Stout eats a left jab from McKenzie. Head kick misses by McKenzie, but he is doing a good job of staying away from Stout's power shots and keeps landing his jab. Another head kick misses by McKenzie, and he just misses Stout with a left hook. Kick to the body by Stout. Huge shot to the body by Stout, and Cody goes down. McKenzie gets back up, and Stout starts to find his groove. Stout lands another shot to the body, and ends the round by doing the same thing.
Round two: McKenzie goes for Stout's feet, but Stout stuffs the takedown. Shortly after, McKenzie does the exact same thing and Stout cancels it out again. Kick to the body by Stout. Shots to the body from Stout. Another takedown stuffed by Stout. Stout catches Cody's kick attempt, and clocks him with two right hands. Left hook from McKenzie, and Stout returns the favor with a kick to the body. Shot to the body by Stout, and it looks as if Cody is really started to feel it. Short uppercut from Stout, followed by another kick to the body. Stout eats a left from McKenzie, and clocks him with a straight right hand. Awesome takedown defense by Stout in this round.
Round three: Stout opens the third round with more body shots and a relentless jab. As McKenzie has another takedown stuffed, Stout goes for the guillotine. Stout lets Cody back up, and lands a combination on Cody's body. Stout barely misses with a bomb of a right hand. Another shot to the body from Stout. That is the story of this fight, if you have not noticed already. McKenzie's gut looks bloodshot red right now. Stout picking McKenzie apart with his striking. Cody ends up rolling for a single, and the two sprawl on the ground as Stout fights off an ankle lock.
Final result: Stout Def. McKenzie by Unanimous Decision (30-27x3)

Round one: The rivals square off, and Bowling misses with a low kick. Trujillo goes after him with a combination. Bowling with a big right hand, and Trujillo returns the favor. Trujillo has Bowling's back, trying to take him down. Bowling is looking for the guillotine, and sprawls. Bowling is looking for a left arm guillotine, and Trujillo staying calm from the bottom. Trujillo stands up, but Bowling is not letting go. Trujillo breaks free and almost nails Bowling with a flying knee. Jab, followed by a right from Trujillo. Knee to the body by Trujillo. Trujillo cuts Bowling open right under his right eye with a jab. Trujillo throws a few knees to the midsection. Heavy jab by Trujillo. Combination lands for Trujillo, and he takes Bowling down. Trujillo starts to throw knees from side control. As Bowling gets back up, Trujillo clocks him with a few shots. Bowling needs to adjust.
Round two: Uppercut misses from Trujillo, and as Bowling throws a leg kick, Trujillo takes him down. Standup from Bowling, and Trujillo hits him with a straight right hand, followed by a takedown. As Bowling looks to get back up, Trujillo nails him with some devastating punches on the ground. Bowling makes his way back up, and eats a few more powerful shots. Big John steps in to save a bloodied Bowling, who looked out on his feet.
Final result: Trujillo Def. Bowling by TKO (Punches), at 1:35 R2

125 lbs.: Alp Ozkilic vs. Darren Uyenoyama
Round one: The two touch gloves and get thing started. Feeling out process from both. Legkick from Ozkilic, followed by a jab. Ozkilic lands a left hook as Uyenoyama tried to throw a kick to the body. Uyenoyama works a single leg and eventually gets the takedown. Uyenoyama postures up, and Ozkilic is looking for the armbar, but fails to secure it. He makes his way to his feet shortly but Uyenoyama is holding on. The two are back to their feet, and Ozkilic stuffs another takedown attempt. Ozkilic scores a takedown, yet lands right into Uyenoyama's guard. Ozkilic trying to improve positioning, and lands a short punch from the guard. Uyenoyama works his way back to his feet, and the round ends with a bit of striking from both.
Round two: Ozkilic tangles with Uyenoyama and gets him down again. The promotional debutant lets Uyenoyama get up after tagging him on the ground. Big right hand by Uyenoyama, though Ozkilic seems alright. Ozkilic goes for another takedown, and Uyenoyama pulls guard. Ozkilic lands a few left hands from the guard. The referee stands them up. Kick to the body by Uyenoyama. Ozkilic throwing power shots, but he is not landing many of them. Good right hand by Uyenoyama, and he tries to lure his opponent to the ground, though it does not work. Ozkilic stuffs a takedown, and his foe pulls guard. Ozkilic trying to work and Uyenoyama is staying active from the bottom. Ozkilic lets him back on his feet and tags him with a right hand. Ozkilic is cut on the nose, though it does not look severe.
Round three: Ozkilic throws a left leg kick, followed by a few more kicks. Ozkilic rocks Uyenoyama with a right hand, and now he is going for it. Body shots from Ozkilic as Uyenoyama is trying to clinch. Ozkilic takes him down, with his arm trapped. Uyenoyama controlling Ozkilic's head from guard. Rubber guard from Uyenoyama, and Ozkilic lets him back up. Spinning heel kick attempt from Uyenoyama, which misses. Huge right hand from Ozkilic, and Uyenoyama stumbles a bit. Another right hand from Ozkilic, who is proving to be the striker with heavier hands. Uyenoyama pulls guard again, and he starts to throw elbows off his back. Back on the feet, Uyenoyama throws a head kick, but Ozkilic scores another body takedown. Ozkilic lets him back up and Uyenoyama tries to mix it up with kicks. Uyenoyama with the spinning back fist that misses, and Ozkilic makes him pay with another right hand.
