UFC Quick Quote: Nate Diaz 'wasn't going to stop' hitting Gray Maynard had Yves Lavigne not stopped fight

So Nate Diaz thinks that may have been a bit of a late stoppage ...

"Yeah, in boxing (the referee) will start hopping in when they start taking a lot of punches. Or maybe the corner will throw in the towel. I wasn't going to stop, but at the same time, I was curious. I was trying to set up a good one to land that would finish it off if they weren't going to stop it."

-- Following his first round drubbing of Gray Maynard in the main event of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 18 Finale (full fight highlights here) last night (Nov. 30, 2013) at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, Nate Diaz was asked about the referee's stoppage during the post-fight press conference. The bout only lasted for a half-round, so in the most literal terms, it's difficult to call Yves Lavigne's call a "late stoppage." However, for those who saw the bout, it was clear that Maynard was not intelligently defending himself. In fact, once Lavigne pulled Diaz away, Maynard took several wobbly steps before falling to the mat. With other questionable stoppages on Lavigne's resume, including Matt Brown's technical knockout of Pete Sell at UFC 96, it's understandable the reason there would be concern with how the third man in the cage handled the situation. To his credit, Diaz seemed to be a bit concerned about the stoppage.
