Hey there all my mania family and friends...and you too, PV. I have shared bits of my "story" in relevant Fanposts and comment sections (namely "The Greatest Day..." and Kash's recent "Game of Inches post) but last night I was interviewed by Channel 5 News here in the Kansas City area for a story that will run during sweeps week. They contacted me after interviewing a friend of mine (who happens to be the county coroner) regarding a letter he recently sent to multiple news outlets as well as the state legislature.
There is currently a bill being considered in the Missouri State Senate to initiate a statewide database to track prescription narcotics. Missouri now stands as the only state in the union without such a registry - and is now becoming a destination point for dealers traveling to our state to visit one of our many "pill mills". My addiction - while entirely my responsibility - began to spiral out of control when I was introduced to a doctor who operated one such mill. He wrote prescriptions for cash and, unbeknownst to me at the time, had already had his license to practice medicine in another state for similar practices.
I didn't intend to drag this out - but here is a link to the letter http://m.marshallnews.com/story/2017690.html. I let addiction to prescription opiates steal almost 4 years of my life and hope this will be a step toward preventing that from happening to someone else. Once I find out when it will air I will let you guys know...if anyone cares.
