The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) added two European light heavyweights for its return to London at UFC Fight Night 37 in March at the O2 Arena.
The promotion is going on a bit of an "international tour" in 2014, hitting new markets in Singapore, Poland, and Turkey. On one of the first stops in London, Cyrille Diabate will meet Ilir Latifi on a card headlined by Alexander Gustafsson facing Jimi Manuwa.
Latifi made his UFC debut when he stepped in on short notice as a replacement for Gustafsson when he was pulled from UFC on Fuel TV 9 because of a cut over his eye. Latifi was unsuccessful in his bout with Mousasi but took the former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight champion the distance.
Diabate's UFC career has been a bit inconsistent. He's been able to pick up wins over the lower tiered fighters in the light heavyweight division but has been completely unsuccessful whenever he takes a step up in competition.
The bout is likely a "must win" for Latifi as the light heavyweight division is one of the deepest in the promotion. Going 0-2 is a sure fire way to get bounced. Diabate may also be on the chopping block because of his age. At 40 years old, a loss could mean the end of "the Snake's" UFC career.
