As mixed martial arts (MMA) fans now know, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is headed back to the Atlanta area for a special midweek extravaganza on FOX Sports 1, which takes place on January 15, 2014 from Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Georgia.
UFC Fight Night 35 already features a main event of Luke Rockhold vs. Constantinos Philippou and a featherweight match-up pitting Cole Miller against fellow 145-pound stalwart Sam Sicilia. In addition, top bantamweight prospect T.J. Dillashaw tries to get back into the win column by smashing 135-pound "Hulk," Mike Easton.
Now the card just got that much bigger with today's addition of Thiago Silva vs. Ovince St. Preux in a light heavyweight match that will surely create some fantastic stand-up encounters.
Silva will come into the bout following a decision victory over Matt Hamill at UFC Fight Night 29. This improved his record in the promotion to 7-3, with two no contests but unfortunately for him, Silva wasn't able to silence critics as he came into the bout overweight and gassed prior to stopping Hamill, who was out on his feet in the third.
Dana White was less than impressed and told the world all about it.
Meanwhile, St. Preux has followed an impressive 5-1 run in Strikeforce with three consecutive victories inside the Octagon. Most recently, he scored a knockout win over Cody Donovan at UFC Fight Night 26 to go along with his decision win over Gian Villante at UFC 159. 10 of his 14 wins have not reached the judges' scorecards.
