Daniel Straus is your new Bellator Featherweight champion after defeating Pat Curran at Bellator 106 in Long Beach, California at the Long Beach Arena on Saturday (Nov. 1, 2013) night. Curran has held the title since his vicious knockout of Joe Warren at Bellator 60.
From the get go, Straus was just a step ahead of the champion, who is notorious for being a slow starter. The problem was that Curran just never got going. The whole fight he slower and failed to land the big punch when he needed the knockout.
The turning point was the third round when Curran landed an illegal knee to Straus' head. He was docked a point and in hindsight, it was all she wrote.
The judges scored the fight 49-45, 48-46, 48-46. Straus stated that he was sure he'd face Curran again in the future. That may be true, but the former champ is going to have to win a tournament to get another shot at gold.
