Tyron Woodley needed less than one round to send former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight title contender Josh Koscheck to the astral plane in their bout at UFC 167 on Saturday night (Nov. 16, 2013) at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Koscheck refused to touch gloves at the start of the first round and "T-Wood" immediately pounced, landing several punches that put Koscheck on the defensive. Though many predicted that the fight would mostly play out in the clinch against the fence, these Welterweight wrestlers instead decided to trade power punches on the feet.
It was Woodley who proved to be the more accurate striker, dropping Koscheck midway through the first round even though Koscheck was able to survive. However, Koscheck's chin failed to hold up a second time when Woodley landed a crushing hook that floored him. Another hook to the templed and that was all she wrote.
In his post-fight interview, Woodley pleaded for the "Knockout of the Night" bonus. And UFC President Dana White obliged.
