The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) female bantamweight division will now be represented at UFC Fight Night 33 on FOX Sports 1, when Julie Kedzie vs. Aleksandra Albu tangle at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Queensland, Australia, on December 7, 2013.
UFC officials announced the fight on Tuesday.
The pair come into the fight on complete opposite ends of the mixed martial arts (MMA) career spectrum. Kedzie (16-12) is a nine-year veteran of the sport and has fought the likes of Miesha Tate and Gina Carano. She trains with the famed Greg Jackson camp in Albuquerque, N.M., and is currently riding a three-fight skid, most recently losing against Germaine de Randamie at UFC on FOX 8.
Albu, a former bodybuilder and competitive powerlifter, is a Russian National Champion in Karate-Do through IJKA (International Japan Karate-Do Association) and bronze medalist in the European Championships. "Stitch" is also an accomplished Judo practitioner with a professional MMA record of 5-0, according to her Red Fury fight camp, which is also home to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Bellator standout Shahbulat Shamhalaev.
"Stitch" has earned first-round stoppages in each of the first five fights, all but one of her victories have occurred in Thailand. She's perhaps more well-known for her modeling work than she is her fighting at this point (click here to see why). So it may come as a surprise to some when she inked a deal with UFC last month.
UFC Fight Night 33: "Hunt vs. Bigfoot" will feature a titanic Heavyweight tilt pitting former PRIDE and K-1 striker Mark Hunt against Brazilian behemoth Antonio Silva. Other matches include Mauricio Rua vs. James Te Huna and Pat Barry vs. Soa Palelei.
