Let's have a talk Mania.
Over the last couple hours, I've been doing my standard Sunday night routine, which is the following: Avoid any semblance of work and waste time on the Internet. After checking out the third photoshop thread in about a week, I was reminded of the Maniac unmask posts. Since Scottidog passed away nearly eight months ago (February 14, 2013), there is no one around to post the annual unmask thread.
I'm not about to let that happen, so I had to find out when in the Winter he posted it (January for those wondering).
After my mania search of Scottidog failed to bring up the link to his account name, I clicked on the post detailing the news of his death, recalling that his wife had commented through his account. While searching for her comment, I was stunned by the amount of OGs, regulars, and all around great posters who commented. The total amount of posters did not surprise me, as he deserved all the respect he got, but the amount of names I never see on here anymore did. Quality posters who simply disappeared off the face of the earth, or show up once every three months with a single comment.
This post is directed at those people. I'm tired of posters who make this site better abandoning it because they don't like the "Summer" posters, trolls, or gay jokes. The only way to make this site a better place is to actively participate in it.
Do not quarantine yourselves in the fanpost section. If you don't like any of the comments in a front page post, make your own damn comment. Start a discussion yourself. Be goddamn proactive.
Do not stop commenting because you don't like me, Cory, or any other staff member. If you think we're cocksuckers, that's fine. Ignore us and move on, same as any other poster.
Do not stop commenting because you miss your fellow OGs/Old school maniacs. Be the person who starts the discussion that brings them back into the conversation.
I understand that life gets in the way, but everyone has 168 hours in their week. It's up to you to make the time. As the infamous book and inspiration for Deuce02's screenname says, Everybody Poops. You can find five minutes in your day to comment.
I'll end it with one of Scottidog's posts not long before his death, that describes the same problem I'm trying to fight.
That's right. MY Mania.
It's yours as well. It's all of ours.
Mania has always been, first and foremost, a great MMA blog. Long before i delved into the threads, I came here for the latest MMA news.
But that isn't why I stayed. I stayed because of the community. You guys made this place. I knew that Ulf was a crotchety old man, long before I ever spoke to him personally. I knew that if Jay was in a bad mood, somebody was going to get their ass handed to them. I knew that OJR likes a thick, taut booty. I hung around long enough to befriend many of you. I've seen format changes, bannings, trolls, indignation and a level of f*ggotry that has never been rivaled anywhere. I don't know if f*ggotry is a word. But i'm on a roll, so fuckin' deal with it.
So, I have pulled back recently. I've been reduced to lurker status. Like many of the regular posters here, I've grown tired of the new breed of trolls. I don't love the new format....but I'm old and hate everything new.
So here's my bottom line. Fuck this.
Fuck relinquishing the site to assholes. Fuck walking away. Fuck leaving because of a format change. I refuse to deny myself the pleasure of my favorite site. I plan on being here a long time.
So here's the deal. Let's get off our asses and make this place ours again. We are The Sons Of Mania and Mania is our Charming. If you don't get that reference, then we have little to discuss anyway.
Pitch in. Lets have relevant conversation, Or better yet, let's go back to irrelevant conversation and have some fun. I have faith in you guys. If I have to go to BE to talk to you f*gs, then all is lost.
My fuckin Mania, bitches.
Stop being a bunch of pussies. Help ensure that MMAmania remains the best damn Mixed Martial Arts website on the planet.
