I guess making your own match-ups is all the rage these days.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight wunderkind Erick Silva -- who quickly became the promotion's prodigal son after coming up lame against Dong Hyun Kim earlier this month -- is looking to get back into the win column at the expense of another talented Brazilian.
"Indio" blasted out a tweet earlier today (translated by Guillermo Cruz) promising the jiu-jitsu master an easy fight. After all, how hard would it be for an Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) champion to submit a guy with a bad ground game and terrible takedown defense?
Demian, what do you think of getting back to the wins vs. a guy with a bad ground game and terrible takedown defense like me?
Cue Admiral Ackbar: It's a trap!
Silva was stiffened by "Stun Gun" on the main card of UFC Fight Night 29 back on October 9 in Brazil (video). That's the same FOX Sports 1 event that saw Maia out-grappled by fellow former middleweight Jake Shields. The loss dropped him to 3-1 since moving to welterweight, whereas Silva stands at just 3-3 inside the Octagon.
Fun fight, but little reason for Maia to take it, since he holds wins over Kim and Jon Fitch, two fighters who were able to convincingly defeat Silva.
This potential match-up doin' anything for ya'?
