Do you like to watch?
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman is hoping the answer to that question is "yes."
Weidman recently told FOX Sports about the new website he is launching, TheChampChallenge.com, that will give fans unprecedented real time access to his training camp as he prepares to defend his title against former middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva at UFC 168 in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Dec. 28, 2013.
It's pretty much giving access to everything I do to the fans. From my diet, every single thing I'm eating everyday, my workouts, every workout I'm doing, pretty much everything that I need to do to win this fight against Anderson Silva is going to be available to everyone who signs up. It's 24-hour access in my gym, so you'll get to watch everything I do. It's exciting. I think it's a new step for the sport, and gives the fans an idea of what it takes to be a MMA fighter.
Although The Champ Challenge appears to be largely an online fitness program for fans who want to get in shape along with Weidman as he trains for the most anticipated rematch of the year, there is always the possibility his opponent Silva -- whose line of Nike t-shirts reads "Anderson Knows," ironically enough -- will use the website as a scouting tool.
Weidman's response? Bring it on!
I don't mind people watching me as long as they're not interrupting my training. I have no secrets. Anderson Silva, you can know everything I do, it doesn't matter. I'm going to walk across that cage and I'm going to bring it to you. It doesn't affect me. They're going to have to beat me and that's what makes it exciting. It makes it even more competitive. [Anderson] can sign up, he can watch me all he wants.
It certainly appears the champ isn't lacking in confidence heading into a return bout against a man many consider the G.O.A.T. to ever compete in MMA. Sounds like Weidman agrees with Silva-arch rival Chael Sonnen's assessment of his chances in the rematch.
Weidman is set to begin his training camp and kick off The Champ Challenge next Monday, Oct. 21, 2013.
