Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting is reporting that World Series of Fighting (WSOF) has signed the middleweight stand out after he was released from his UFC contract following a TKO loss to Ronaldo Souza at UFC Fight Night: "Teixiera vs. Bader."
The MMA world was both shocked and outraged that the Vegas-based promotion would release Okami who held a 13-5 record inside the Octagon. In fact, UFC President Dana White once claimed that Okami was the "best fighter to come out of Japan."
The deal is an excluse, multi-fight contract that should see Okami making his debut around March 2014, though a specific date and opponent have yet to be decided. He will be competing in the middleweight division, one of WSOF's deepest divisions. It will be his first bout outside the UFC in over seven years.
