The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will begin 2014 with a show in Singapore on Jan. 4 and the main event is already set. UFC Fight Night 34 will be the UFC's first time into Singapore and the Vegas-based promotion wants to make a big splash in one of the world's thriving markets.
MMA Junkie is reporting that Jake Ellenberger and Tarec Saffiedine have verbally meet in the main event of the evening. Though the venue and broadcast plans have yet to be announced, this is a very important event for the UFC's expansion.
The main event is perfect for this market as both men have a tendency to stand and trade.
Ellenberger is trying to get back to his winning ways after dropping a tough fight to Rory MacDonald at UFC on Fox 8 in Seattle. That bout was panned by the media and UFC President Dana White as being extremely disappointing. MacDonald used a jab to keep Ellenberger at distance and earn a decision.
Saffiedine last fought in Strikeforce where he captured the welterweight title against Nate Marquardt at Strikeforce: "Marquardt vs. Saffiedine", which was the promotions final event. He was expected to face Robbie Lawler at UFC on Fox 8 but was forced to withdraw due to injury.
So what say you Maniacs? Is this fight a worthy main event?
