Earlier this week, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) pushed out its list of 10 best fights of 2012, with Joe Lauzon vs. Jim Miller at UFC 155 last month in Las Vegas grabbing the number one spot. See the entire top 10 list by clicking here.
Now it's time to recognize the fighters.
There were a lot of fantastic performances over the past 12 months. UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones defended his title twice, while middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva did it once. "The Spider" also moved up a weight class and beat the roids out of Stephan Bonnar in Brazil.
Matt Brown went an "Immortal" 4-0 with three violent finishes.
But none of those fighters could hold a candle to the 2012 fight campaign of UFC Lightweight Champion Ben Henderson, at least according to the silent majority over at UFC.com. I'm sure their pick will be hotly contested, so let's take a look at the entire top 10:
10. Constantinos Philippou (3-0)
9. Anderson Silva (2-0)
8. Mike Pyle (3-0)
7. Cub Swanson (3-0)
6. Stefan Struve (3-0)
5. Cain Velasquez (2-0)
4. Matt Brown (4-0)
3. Demetrious Johnson (2-0-1)
2. Jon Jones (2-0)
1. Ben Henderson (3-0)
Anyone want to argue the top spot?
Our own Patrick Stumberg also blew out his "Best of" list for 2012 (see it here) and as far as the top five are concerned, Jon Jones is the only fighter from the above list to make the cut, coming in at number four. And his choice for numero uno may surprise you.
Compare and contrast right here.
In the meantime, let's get some feedback from the peanut gallery. Anyone on this list who shouldn't be? And how about the order? Your choice for top fighter of 2012 is...
