George Roop has withdrawn from his fight against Yuri Alcantara at UFC on FX 7: "Belfort vs. Bisping," and now Perdo Nobre will face Alcantara on Jan. 19, 2013, at Ginasio Estadual Geraldo Jose de Almeida in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
For the second time in a row, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight George Roop has withdrawn from a fight at the last minute, forcing a shakeup to this month's UFC on FX 7: "Belfort vs. Bisping" fight card as UFC newcomer Pedro Nobre will replace the American against Yuri Alcantara on Jan. 19, 2013.
The exact reason for Roop's withdrawal from the event is unknown at this time.
Brazilian news outlet SporTV first reported the switch to the fight card. UFC officials have yet to confirm the new match up.
Nobre (14-1-2) is a three-year veteran of the sport who has competed in all of his professional bouts in smaller organizations in his home country of Brazil. The 26-year-old has competed in many bouts at 125-pounds, but will move away from his natural weight to the featherweight division for his UFC debut.
"The Rock" has finished his opponent in 13 of his 14 career victories, and has won nine fights in the first round.
Alcantara (28-4) has his 13-fight winning streak snapped at UFC 147 in July when he lost a unanimous decision to Hacran Dias. ‘Marajo' is 2-1 in the UFC with victories over Michihiro Omigawa and Felipe Arantes.
The 32-year-old will look to get back on track when he competes at 135-pounds for the first time in the UFC.
The 145-pound contest is expected to take place on the preliminary portion of the UFC on FX 7 card, which airs on FUEL TV and Facebook. The main card airs live on FX.
UFC on FX 7: "Belfort vs. Bisping" goes down Jan. 19, 2013 from the Ginasio Estadual Geraldo Jose de Almeida in Sao Paulo, Brazil. A middleweight contenders bout serves as the main event as top 185-pound fighters Vitor Belfort and Michael Bisping clash in a contest scheduled for five rounds.
