Carla Esparza took a unanimous decision win over Bec Hyatt last night (Jan. 5, 2012) in the Invicta Fighting Championship 4 main event at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan., winning the women's mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion's first-ever Strawweight championship.
In the Bantamweight (135 pounds) co-main event, Alexis Davis put Shayna Baszler to sleep with a rear naked choke in round three, avenging a 2010 loss to "The Queen of Spades" in impressive fashion. Other main card action included Leslie Smith outslugging Raquel Pennington to earn a unanimous decision victory, while Sarah D'Alelio topped Amanda Nunes on the judges scorecards with help from an illegal upkick that resulted in a point deduction for "Lioness of the Ring."
And, of course, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight Pat Barry was in attendance to support his girlfriend, Rose Namajunas, and, in doing so, went absolutely bonkers (watch his reaction here).
MMA shutterbug sensation Esther Lin was on the scene to capture the entire 13-bout fight card in photo form and a selection of her shots are featured up above for your viewing pleasure.
