World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) veterans, Erik Koch and Ricardo Lamas, met under the bright Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lights TONIGHT (Jan. 26, 2013) on the UFC on FOX 6 main card from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
More bright lights were probably the last thing Koch and his awful "FOX tan" needed, but high-profile exposure -- like the kind a spot on a nationally-televised main card brings -- is seemingly always good for business, especially when a potential title shot hangs in the balance.
But, so, too, is #WINNING.
Koch, who came into the bout riding a four-fight win streak (two in the UFC), came out like an "Angry Orange," pumping his jab and pushing the pace. Lamas kept a safe distance, looking for his opportunity to get the fight on his terms, which is on the mat, shooting unsuccessfully for a takedown, but still managing to tie up Koch along the cage for a solid portion of the opening frame.
After a rather uneventful first round, Lamas came out in the second and scored a takedown, albeit on a slip. He was able to quickly get on top of Koch, waited for an opening and came down with a huge elbow that appeared to stun Koch bad, but the following skin-splitting punches erased any doubt.
Blood began to gush from Koch's face as Lamas continued to pour on the punishment before the referee finally waived him off for the biggest win of his career and his fourth straight in the UFC since making the drop to Featherweight
Impressive.
