Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight Dan Miller was forced to pull out of his UFC 152 fight against Sean Pierson later this month at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, but he still picked up a much-needed win after a hard-fought battle.
His son, Danny Jr., finally has a new kidney.
That's thanks to an extraordinary gift from his aunt, Kathy Frick, after she went under the knife to give Danny, who was battling polycystic kidney disease (PKD) since the day he was born, a fighting chance.
From Momma Miller (via MMA Weekly):
"In March of 2010, he lost all kidney function. Today, September 6, 2012, Danny is now peeing again! Words can't describe the emotion that we are feeling right now. He's still in the OR (operating room) but will be headed to his PICU (pediatric intensive care unit) room shortly. His new kidney function will be monitored extremely closely. Kathy is recovering in her room. We love you so much Kathy and can never thank you enough. Xoxo Daniel James..we love you so much!"
After all the drama from UFC 151, which in retrospect is meaningless in the grand scheme of things, it's refreshing to hear good news for a change -- though little Danny isn't out of the woods just yet. The road to recovery will be a long, difficult and expensive one.
Something all too common for them.
