TUF 17

Calling all 185 and 205 pounders!

While the latest season of The Ultimate fighter (TUF) hasn't even begun airing on FX yet, The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is already looking for the next crop of fighters who will be participating in the 17th season, which will likely be debuting in 2013.

This time, it's the middleweight and light heavyweight divisions that will be getting a closer look. That is, according a a press release which just announced that the TUF 17 tryouts were open to fighters in both divisions.

If you're an aspiring 185 or 205-er, the tryouts will be held on Monday, September 17, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada in the Grand Ballroom of the Palace Station Hotel.

More info from the release after the jump

Of course, not everyone can hop into the tryouts, there are a few stipulations (via the release):

All TUF 17 candidates must be at least 21 years old, have a minimum of three professional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fights - and hold a winning record (with verifiable records). Applications, which should be completed and brought to the tryouts, can be found online at http://www.ufc.com/tuf17.

The last three seasons of The Ultimate Fighter have all focused on welterweight and below, but the big boys are finally getting a shot.

Middleweights were last featured in TUF 11, where Court McGee would come out on top (although TUF Brazil was half middleweights as well). You'll have to go all the way back to TUF season eight to find the last light heavyweight season, in which current UFC contender Ryan Bader was crowned king.

What do you think about this new revelation, Maniacs?

Are you excited for some of the heavier weight classes getting an opportunity? Are there any decent 205 pound free agents that could make an impact?

Sound off!
