Duane Ludwig was trying to avoid a three fight losing streak against Che Mills at UFC on FUEL TV 5 but a faulty knee cost him dearly.
The UFC on FUEL TV 5: "Struve vs. Miocic" main card from Nottingham, England, today (Sept. 29, 2012) kicked off with a welterweight war pitting the heavily hyped Che Mills taking on vested veteran Duane Ludwig.
This represented Mills first fight back since his crushing defeat at the hands of Rory MacDonald back in April. That was his only career defeat, however. Ludwig, meanwhile, had lost four of six and two in a row coming in.
Talk about a must win.
It's too bad he lost. It's also too bad the way it happened.
Mills came out firing in the first round, landing a couple uppercuts and a few knees behind it. He would work a few trip takedowns to get superior position to dominant the fight early.
Ludwig battled back to his feet and fought valiantly but during a clinch against the cage and another takedown attempt from Mills, Duane's knee went "bang" and the referee stopped the fight due to injury.
Thems the breaks.
