Now that he's 24-years-old and been in the fight game as long as he has, Stefan Struve no longer feels like a boy amongst men. And if he can defeat Stipe Miocic at UFC on FUEL TV 5, he believes he'll be a top five heavyweight.
When Stefan Struve steps inside the Octagon to fight Stipe Miocic at UFC on FUEL TV 5 tomorrow (Sat., Sept. 29, 2012) in Nottingham, England, he'll do so not as a boy but as a man.
Or that's what he says.
Now that he's got enough experience under his belt as a professional mixed martial artist, the young and hungry "Skyscraper" no longer feels like a boy amongst men. He's a lion ready to make his mark.
""It's everything together, all the experience I've gotten from all the years of fighting in the UFC and before that," Struve told FUEL TV. "I'm 24-years-old now, I'm not a boy amongst men anymore, I don't feel like that anymore. I'm really one of the bigger guys and all that together just makes me so confident that I can just beat anybody in the world right now."
We'll find out if he can make true on that last promise tomorrow when he takes on Miocic, a rising heavyweight contender hoping to make Struve a stepping stone to bigger and better things. For his part, the Dutchman is trying to do the same, and he believes a victory would put him in the top five of the division.
"I think we're both around the top 10 and a win will definitely, as Dana (White) said at the press conference, will put us in or near the top five of the world."
Currently, Struve sits at number 13 in the MMA Nation consensus rankings with Miocic at 18. Should a win really push either of them up so many slots above guys like Frank Mir, Josh Barnett, and Antonio Silva?
