That didn't take long.
Just days after Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones defeated Vitor Belfort to retain his 205-pound strap, trash-talking troublemaker Chael Sonnen has resumed his verbal warfare, opening fire last night via Twitter.
And "Bones" keeps giving him ammunition.
Despite a fourth round submission win, it was Jones who almost did the tapping in the main event of UFC 152 last Saturday night (Sept. 22, 2012) in Toronto, thanks to a painful first-round armbar from his Brazilian foe that was deep enough to pop the champ's elbow.
He eventually escaped, but the damage was done.
Enough to garner Jones a trip to the hospital instead of the afterparty following the promotion's "Hogtown" pay-per-view (PPV), along with an indefinite medical suspension by the Ontario Athletic Commission, pending a doctor's clearance.
It was too much for Sonnen to resist.
Sonnen, who fights Forrest Griffin later this year after getting chased out of the middleweight division by Anderson Silva, was already in line for a light heavyweight title shot when Dan Henderson got hurt and withdrew from UFC 151.
Jones, however, was not interested in fighting the "American Gangster" on just eight days notice and the event was scrapped. But the campaign, which includes this sensitive topic, remains strong.
