UFC heavyweight champ Junior dos Santos may want to silence his biggest critic, Alistair Overeem, but not before he gets through Cain Velasquez, if the former division kingpin has anything to say about it.
"I think he would want to fight him (Overeem) more, just because of the words they've been throwing back and forth, but he has to fight me first. Right now, I'm expecting for the rematch to happen, so that's what I'm thinking about. If the UFC tells me different, then I gotta prepare for something else, but right now, it's a for sure thing that I'm gonna be fighting dos Santos on December 29th."
-- That's what Cain Velasquez had to say, during an interview with AXS TV's Ron Kruck, when asked who he thinks Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos would prefer to defend his title against next. Velasquez (along with just about everyone else in the mixed martial arts community) believes that "Cigano" would prefer to fight Alistair Overeem, based mainly on the war of words the two gargantuan tough guys have had via Twitter and other media outlets. However, Velasquez is unwilling to yield. He's firm in thinking that he deserves his title shot rematch, and "The Reem" will just have to wait his turn if it's up to him. With that said, he knows it's not out of the question that he could be passed over, but no one that signs his paychecks has told him anything to make him think that will be the final scenario. Dos Santos and Velasquez are scheduled to fight each other in the main event headline fight for UFC 155, which will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada on Dec. 29, 2012.
