As we all know, last night Demetrious Johnson won the UFC Flyweight Championship belt. Little did we know that the UFC was heading towards bankruptcy and Demetrious helped to prevent it. I had an interview with Demetrious Johnson after the event and here is what he told me.

"I feel like it was a blessing in disguise. I saved the UFC. If Benavidez won, the UFC would've lost trillions of dollars."

More like billions, but the point still stands. Joseph Benavidez was an Alpha Male fighter. Alpha Male fighters signed a contract which prevents them from winning something big. In other words, they are not allowed to win The Ultimate Fighter or a UFC championship belt.

"At first, I got him in a guillotine and I thought I would win." said Benavidez. "Then, I remembered that it was for the Flyweight belt. Thank goodness the UFC paid those judges extra money for the fight, because I was scared."

And what a good call indeed.
