The UFC 152: "Jones vs. Belfort" pay-per-view (PPV) kicked off its main card tonight (Sept. 22, 2012) at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, with a featherweight fracas pitting rising contender Charles Oliveira vs. Cub Swanson.
Oliveira came in boasting two submission wins since his debut in the 145-pound division and the promise that another would surely push him near the top of the ladder for a title shot. Swanson was the veteran looking to do the same, though he didn't have as much hype.
Maybe that will change after tonight.
That's because Swanson, a Greg Jackson trained fighter, finished the Brazilian in the very first round after an absurd haymaker right hand landed flush on "Do Bronx's" temple and took his legs from him. No follow up punishment was necessary.
That's three in a row for Swanson. Movin' on up.
It took less than a minute for Oliveira to grab a takedown and go to work on the floor. He didn't get far once there, however, and Swanson fought back to his feet.
Points are points, though.
They exchanged punches once they were back standing until Swanson landed a monster overhand right. Oliveira had a bit of a delayed reaction to taking one on the temple but once he fell out, that was it.
Good night. Bye-bye title aspirations.
