No matter what happens, history will be made at tonight's (Sat., Sept. 22, 2012) UFC 152: "Jones vs. Belfort" pay-per-view (PPV) event at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
That's because the co-main event of the evening, a 125-pound scrap pitting Joseph Benavidez vs. Demetrious Johnson, will decide the promotion's first ever flyweight champion.
The bout is the culmination of a four-man tournament that took far longer than expected when controversy struck Johnson's first fight against Ian McCall, despite every measure taken to avoid as much. Nonetheless, they went at it again and the "Mouse" proved he was the mightiest.
Benavidez had no such issues in his semifinal match-up, as he destroyed Yasuhiro Urushitani via second round technical knockout. He made a big statement with that win but he's been on the sidelines ever since, patiently waiting while Johnson took care of his side of the bracket.
Now it's time the two meet in the center of the Octagon and decide whose name will go on the books as the first flyweight champion ever.
Who 'ya got, Maniacs?
