Saul "Canelo" Alvarez successfully retains his WBC light middleweight championship with a crushing fifth round technical knockout victory over Josesito Lopez last night (Sat., Sept. 15, 2012) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Simply put, Lopez didn't belong anywhere near the same ring as Alvarez, who relentlessly punished Lopez's body with vicious shots that hurt him in multiple rounds, scoring knockdowns time and again. "Canelo" is a legitimate star and despite his young age, possesses the resume to challenge the greats of the sport. Is a bout against Floyd Mayweather in his future? It just may be.
