Sergio Martinez survives a final round flurry from Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to win a unanimous decision on the judges scorecards in an absolute thriller at the Thomas and Mack Center last night (Sat., Sept. 15, 2012) in Las Vegas, Nevada. There were many pundits and fans who believed Chavez Jr. simply didn't belong throwing hands inside the ring with the pound-for-pound great Martinez and for the first 11 rounds it certainly looked that way. But after it seemed all was lost, Chavez Jr. brought forth memories of Meldrick Taylor and swung for the fences in round 12, scoring an unbelievable knockdown that blew the roof off the arena and took the breath of every boxing fan watching. Martinez, a true champion, got back up and hung in until the final bell. It was perhaps the best sports -- not just boxing, but sports -- moment of the year thus far. Simply incredible.
